Tina Turner, who survived a notoriously brutal marriage, received the award for Woman of the Year 2005.
Tina Turner said: “I have not wanted to receive honours before because I have not wanted to talk about my past or think about it but now I am proud of it because it has given a lot of people a lot of help.”
The Women of the Year Award is a new award to be made each year by the Women of the Year organisers to an exceptional woman whose conduct in both her personal and her public life has been both brave and bold, building her life on her own terms and motivating women throughout the world to survive and to succeed with style and character.
